Mom's House is more than all the reviews I've seen. The food is absolutely delicious. Stopped in on my trip from the Bay and it did not disappoint! My colleagues took me here and I came back the next day by myself before heading back out of town. The fried shrimp and red snapper reminds me of the way my grandmother from Louisiana would fry everything with cornmeal. Seasoned to perfection with a side of fried cabbage, yams, and macaroni and cheese and the peach cobbler was absolutely ridiculous good! Also don't sleep on the 4 layer pie. Make sure you wear pants that stretch and be ready to go to sleep afterwards. I will always make room for Mom's House whenever I'm passing through Bakersfield. Grateful for this introduction!

I'd been here a couple years ago can't believe i didn't review it then. This is DAMM GOOD FOOD. I was driving cross country and had to stop again in bakersfield specifically for Mom's House. I'd never seen neckbones on the menu at a southern restaurant despite growing up eating them in the south. They were SO GOOD! Super tender and flavorful without being too salty. The cabbage was cooked with a touch of crunch and savory with hint of sweetness. Purple Kool aid was ON POINT, and not overly sweet. They even gave us neckbone juice for our rice. This place is IT and it was packed with people so you know it's good eating! I hope they stay in business for many many years!

The wait was long but the food was well worth the wait. As a man in the waiting room said, “if it’s a long wait, the food will be great.” The fish and chicken had the taste of fresh oil, something that should be appreciated from a restaurant dealing with a lot of fried food. I would rather wait a little longer for fresh oil than have my food ruined by bad oil. Compliments to the chef and cooks! The seasoning was amazing. Will definitely be making this a new regular for my family.

The service is always pleasant. Food is great always seasoned well and it doesn't take them long to bring it out after you order. Red kool-aid is always sweeter than the grape somehow. Macaroni and cheese is not the greatest I've had but it's OK. The other sides pictured are pretty good though. Portions are big enough to share depending on what you get. The neckbones pictured below as you can see fill up your whole plate and surprisingly have a great amount of meat on them. Fish/shrimp is always a good option to get its always cooked perfectly golden brown and flavorful. Ask for the Sock it To Me cake warmed up you won't regret it. Also the banana pudding is very good also.
